Delaware State Park – Delaware OH

RATING: ♦♦♦♦
  • Length of stay: 7 days
  • Cost of stay: $160
  • Discount: None
  • Hook ups: 50 amp electric, no water or and sewer
  • Site number/quality: #24, level paved pad, surrounded by a large grass/muddy area, and shaded by densewoodlands all around. Many of the other sites were grassier, less shaded, and therefore less muddy.
  • Park quality: This is a nice park. Very large, 1,686 acres. The campground has four sections. Each section has a hub with five spokes leading out from the hub. Each spike ends in a cul-de-sac leading to about ten sites. Each hub has a shower house. All together the park has 211 sites. This unique layout provides a lot of space between sites. The park is located next toDelaware Lake, which was created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for flood control on the Olentangy River, which is upstream from Columbus. The lake is heavily used by boaters and fishermen. There is also a nice sandy beach inside the park, which is a short drive from the campground areas. There are many pleasant walking trails winding in and out of the woods along the lake. One major oversight is the total lack of bike paths.
  • Access: Easy access right off US 23 north of Columbus.
  • Connectivity: Verizon strong, Cricket/AT&T strong with antenna, T-Mobile strong
  • Return yes/no?: Yes
  • Notes: We took a day trip to Columbus, which is just 35 miles away. Had a great meal at Schmidt’s Sausage Haus in German Village.
