Hilltop RV Park – Fort Stockton TX

RATING: ♦♦♦♦
  • Length of stay: 2 days
  • Cost per night: $27/night
  • Discount: 10% Cash
  • Hook ups: 50 amp electric, water, and sewer.
  • Site number/quality: #41. Level, gravel pad. Paver/brick picnic area with table. No shade trees. Adequate amount of room between sites. Ours was on the end, which provided a full view of the Davis Mountains off to the west and south. Modern hookups.
  • Park Quality: This is a small commercial campground on a hill overlooking I-10. It’s primary attraction is that it is conveniently located off the Interstate in the middle of nowhere, i.e. West Texas. But not a bad place to stop for a night or two. However, it was very windy up on the hill, and made sitting outside less than ideal. Impossible to extend the awnings.
  • Access: The campground is just outside the town of Fort Stockton with easy access off I-10 and close proximity to town, including a Walmart only a mile away.
  • Connectivity: Verizon weak, AT&T OK, and T-Mobile OK.
  • Return yes/no?: Yes, if back in the area.
  • Notes: We noticed a grinding noise when we extended the big passenger side slideout. Found a grease spot on the front support arm. Looks like we have a leak in the slideout gearbox and motor assembly. Hope to get to our next stop in Marathon and have it fixed there. We had a similar issue about two years ago with the rear arm. Should have replaced both of them back then. Live and learn.
