Salt Springs Recreation Area – Fort McCoy FL

Rating: ♦♦♦♦
  • Length of stay: 14 days
  • Cost of stay: $292.00
  • Discount: FL Senior
  • Hook ups: Electric 50amp, water, sewer
  • Site number/quality: #85 for 5 nights, then moved to #20. Both were large and level, and all sites are on paved parking area with grassy yard, but #20 was larger and quieter, back further in the campground., and it was perfectly situated with morning sun plus a shade tree for afternoon.
  • Park quality: So rare to have full hookups at a state park, big plus for that. You can walk, ride a bike, or drive to the springs which are in a beautiful woodsy area with paved stairs down into the water. The water is a constant 72 degrees, refreshing, clear and clean. Bring your goggles to watch the fish and your rubber raft to bob around as you sunbath.
  • Mail: Mail, UPS, and FedEx all received at the ranger station
  • Access: Far off the beaten path, about 15 miles on a narrow two-lane road, but the road is in good shape so not too bad
  • Connectivity: Virtually none, sometimes a little Verizon at your site, and sometimes a little wifi up at the ranger station
  • Return yes/no?: It’s not along the way to anyplace else, so probably wouldn’t make another special trip to this park, as much as we liked it. 🙁
  • Notes: Loved this park, but it is about 30 minutes to a decent grocery store, and it is hard to go without a cell connection for more than a couple of days. It is about an hour to the Atlantic coast. We took a day trip to St Augustine.
