Araby Acres RV Resort – Yuma AZ

RATING: ♦♦♦
  • Length of stay: 29 days
  • Cost per night: $23/night
  • Discount: Thousand Trails/Encore 10% off monthly rate
  • Hookups: 50 amp electric, sewer, water, and cable.
  • Site number/quality: #96. Flat, gravel pad with concrete sitting area. Sites are tight but neat.
  • Park Quality: This is an Encore RV park, but it’s mostly full of park models. Only a small number of sites are available for actual RVs. Aside from that, the park is nice enough.
  • Access: The campground is on the corner of Araby Rd and 32nd St, a block off I-8. Unfortunately, the traffic noise from the highway is very loud, as is the nearby railroad.
  • Connectivity: AT&T strong and T-Mobile weak.
  • Return yes/no?: There are other parks in the area that we would try first, if/when we come back. There are many to choose from. There is a SKP Co-op a few miles south of town called Kofa SKP Co-op, and there is a very nice RV resort about a mile west of Araby Acres called Country Roads RV Resort. Country Roads is a real resort property, with five pools, a ballroom, and lots of activities, unlike other parks that are resort in name only.
  • Notes: We really liked Yuma, much more than we expected. It’s no wonder that the town is a mecca for RVers during the winter. There are a lot of events during the winter for both locals and returning snowbirds.
  • One event that we especially enjoyed was the annual Tamale Festival in nearby Somerton. It turned out that our RV friends, Bruce and Laura, were there too, but we didn’t know that until later. We did get together with them a few days later and had a nice visit with them and some fellow RVers.

  • There’s an incredible number of RV parks in Yuma. The town reportedly swells to twice it’s regular size in the winter, with up to 90,000 snowbirds, many of them arriving in RVs. That means there are also plenty of RV repair shops as well. Yuma was a perfect location to have some improvements made to our rig. While here, we had our old carpet replaced with linoleum, reupholstered the couch, and added lithium batteries and some solar.
  • Another nice feature of Yuma is that it is reasonably close to Phoenix where Debbie and her family live. We were able to drive up a number of times for a visit, which was especially nice during the holidays.
