The Shack – Walker CA

RATING: ♥♥♥♥♥
  • Dates: May 5, 2019 – May 7, 2019
  • Length of stay: 2 nights.
  • Cost per night: $0.
  • Discount: None.
  • Hookups: Water, 15 amp electric, and sewer dump were available, but didn’t use them.
  • Site number/quality: Parked in gravel driveway in front of the cabin. Wide and fairly level. There was an overhead cable that hung a bit low, about 12′ 4” over the driveway. Our rig is 12′ 6″, but we were able to slowly drive under the cable without it catching on any of our roof-mounted equipment.
  • Park Quality: The Shack is the private property of friends we met a few months ago in Quartzsite. It is a large property with a small cabin on the banks of the West Walker River, which was flowing high and fast at this time of year due to the abundant snowfall in the Sierra Mountains this winter. There were many beautiful and fragrant lilac trees around the cabin. Views of the mountains are spectacular.
  • Access: Off US-395 in the small town of Walker. The property backs up to the Walker River.
  • Connectivity: Verizon-Good, AT&T-None, T-Mobile-None.
  • Return yes/no?: Would love to.
  • Notes: Our friends, Lynn and Terri, invited us to “moochdock” at their property when they learned that we would be passing by on our way up north. Lynn’s brother, Brian, was staying in the cabin while we were there, and their cousin, Karen, lives two doors down. Other family members and friends live close by. We were invited to their neighborhood potluck on the day we arrived. It is a fun and welcoming bunch! Brian and Karen were easy to get to know, and they were quick to tell us what there was to do and see in the area. On our second night, we joined them for a fun evening of dinner and gaming at the Topaz Lodge and Casino. They invited us to stay at The Shack if we’re ever passing through Walker again. We definitely will!
