San Antonio/Alamo (KOA) – San Antonio TX

RATING: ♦♦♦♦+
  • Length of stay: 10 days
  • Cost of per night: $47/night
  • Discount: 10% KOA discount
  • Hook ups: 50 amp electric, water, sewer, and cable TV.
  • Site number/quality: #B6. Gravel pad, pull-through, brick picnic area. Much appreciated shade tree on west side of site considering the 98° heat. Good amount of room between sites for a KOA park.
  • Park Quality: This is a very nice campground inside the city limits of San Antonio. However, the area around the park is mostly industrial as well as a transportation center with lots of trucking yards and freight trains. Despite the surroundings, the park itself felt very safe, with a gated entrance and friendly, adequate staffing. The registration parking area was thoughtfully laid out, and added to the sense of welcome when we arrived. There were lots of activities and an inviting pool.  We also were pleased that the campground has a secure mail room and accepts mail and packages from US Postal, UPS, and FedEx. After our difficulties receiving mail at the last few Thousand Trails, it was a relief to get caught up on some online shopping and mail forwarding.
  • Access: The campground is on Gembler Rd, just 1.5 miles north of I-10 via WW White Rd. Very easy access.
  • Connectivity: Verizon OK, AT&T OK, and T-Mobile OK.
  • Return yes/no?: Definitely.
  • Notes: There is a city bus stop in front of the campground. We took bus #24 directly into downtown, making it easy for us to visit the Alamo and River Walk without fighting traffic or finding parking. The cost was $1.30 each way per person. Highly recommended.
