RATING: ♦♦♦♦
- Dates: Jul 2 – Jul 3, 2019, and Jul 10 – Jul 11, 2019
- Length of stay: 1 night and 1 night.
- Cost per night: $28.
- Discount: 50% off with Passport America.
- Hookups: 50 amps, water, sewer, and cable TV.
- Site number/quality: #29 both times. Nice flat concrete pad with small table. Perfect for overnight.
- Park Quality: The area behind the motel has been converted into a dedicated RV park with hookups. It is located across the road from Hood Canal, which is a deep, narrow fjord that forms the westmost lobe of Puget Sound. It is not a canal in the sense of being a man-made waterway—it is a natural waterway.
- Access: Directly off US-101.
- Connectivity: Verizon-none, AT&T-strong, and T-Mobile-OK.
- Return yes/no?: Yes, we stopped here again on our return trip south.
- Notes: The small town of Hoodsport is a popular staging area for SCUBA divers who come to view the giant Pacific octopus and other large marine creatures that live in the canal. We’re following US-101, which runs right along the edge of the water while hugging the steep cliffs of the Olympia National Forest and Park. It makes for a scenic but somewhat harrowing drive.
