Casa del Angel Feliz – Ajijic JAL, Mexico

RATING: ♦♦♦♦♦

We arrived at our casita on a beautiful Sunday afternoon and were warmly welcomed by our host, Ramon, and his friendly perrita (doggie) Tilly. We were shown to the Lakeview Suite which is on the second floor of the main building of the complex. Ramon, his wife Sue, and Tilly live on the first floor, and there are two more rental suites on the property. The grounds are well manicured, with beautiful bougainvilla and other flowers and fruit trees surrounding the pool.

Casa del Angel Feliz (Happy Angel’s House) is on a residential street one block up from the carretera, or main highway. It is in the central part of Ajijic, so within walking distance of everything. Our neighborhood is a mixed bag consisting of nice homes and others that are more third-worldish. The street itself is uneven, bumpy cobblestone, as are most of the streets here. We are lucky to have a narrow sidewalk from the carretera to our casita. While we feel that the streets and sidewalks, such as they are, add to the character of Ajijic, it always feels good to come home to our little oasis.

We feel very safe in Ajijic, and especially so at Casa del Angel Feliz. The property is surrounded by high walls with solid iron doors. The neighbors seem friendly. There are a lot of kids around. We go out every day, and have never felt threatened or afraid.

Ajijic is a town of about 15,000 – 20,000 people (depending on season), including several thousand ex-pats, mostly from Canada and the U.S. Most visitors from the north come here in the winter to escape the cold, but we heard that the summer is the best time to be here. The temperature consistently touches 80 during the day and goes down to around 60 at night. Perfecto!
