Thousand Trails Lake Conroe (TT) – Willis TX

RATING: ♦♦♦♦+
  • Length of stay: 20 days
  • Cost of per night: $3/night for 50 amp
  • Discount: Thousand Trails
  • Hook ups: 50 amp electric, water, and sewer. No cable TV.
  • Site number/quality: #B11. Brand new section. Concrete pad, but not as level as it should have been for a new concrete pad. Concrete picnic area. There are steep inclines from the loop road to the pad. Some sites are inaccessible to big rigs because of the incline. Also, all the pull-through sites are at 90 degree angles to the loop road, which makes pulling in and out very tight. The entrances to many of the sites have been badly torn up because of this. Also, there is no turn around at the end of the loop. Overall, poorly planned site locations. New trees, no shade.
  • Park Quality: Despite our complaints about the way the new section is designed, the new construction in the campground is a welcome development. The office area, pool, and rec area are all new and very nice.  However, the older section of the campground is typical Thousand Trails with gravel sites and roads. The main advantage of the older section is that it is close to the pool and lake.
  • Access: Easy access off TX-830, not far from I-45, about 50 minutes north of downtown Houston.
  • Connectivity: Verizon very weak, AT&T strong, T-Mobile very strong.
  • Return yes/no?: Sure
  • Notes: The campground is on the suburban edge of Houston. While the campground itself is peaceful, the traffic on the interstate and main roads outside the campground is very heavy. The plus side is that there is plenty of shopping nearby.
  • Bonus: Our neighbors in the next site over, Bill and Nancy, are native Canadians who have been full-time residents of Chapala, Mexico for the past 17 years.  The town of Chapala is only a few miles from Ajijic, which is where we will be spending the summer. Bill and Nancy are heading back to Mexico in mid-June, which is the same time we’ll be arriving there. We hope to meet up with them again in a few weeks. They assure us we will have a wonderful time at Lake Chapala, Mexico. Also, Judy and Bill stayed across from us for a couple of nights on their way to Ohio.
