Zoológico Parque del Niño Jersey – Valle de Guadalupe BC, Mexico

RATING: ♦♦♦♦♦
  • Dates: Feb 15, 2019 – Feb 19, 2019
  • Length of stay: 4 nights
  • Cost per night: Included in caravan cost.
  • Discount: SKP caravan group rate
  • Hookups: None.
  • Site number/quality: No sites. Stayed in back parking lot.
  • Park Quality: This is a very unique and unconventional place to camp. Even though there are no RV services, the parking area is just a couple dozen feet from the animals in the zoo. Our rig faced the wolf enclosure, which allowed us to study the animals for long periods from inside our motorhome.
  • Access: The zoo is about 5 miles off Federal Highway 3 in the small village of Valle de Guadalupe. The street through town was narrow and full of deep potholes due to the recent heavy rains.
  • Connectivity: AT&T was spotty. T-Mobile was good.
  • Return yes/no?: Probably not, unless part of a caravan.
  • Notes: This is a small zoo that is full of heart. Our group was provided a behind the scenes tour, and we learned how much the zookeepers care for the animals. Most of them are rescues, and the zoo does its best with limited resources to make their lives safe and interesting. In addition to the zoo, the valley surrounding the village is home to many wineries, and has become the Mexican version of Napa Valley. There are dozens of first class wineries in the area. Our group had a wonderful visit to one of the best, Monte Xanic, which included an extensive wine tasting. The weather was rainy and cooler than it would typically be at this time of year, but a good time was had by all.
